Planning

One of the key activities of the Civic Society is to monitor the planning activities for Weston-super-Mare.  This can be individual planning applications published online by North Somerset Council or public consultations.

For planning applications typically there is a three week period in which comments can be made and for these to be considered by the NSC planning officer allocated to the application.  As this is a short period of time to react, a small sub-committee was set up following the 2015 AGM to look after this matter.  After the preparation of a draft response this circulated to the remainder of the executive committee for any further comment or endorsement.

The Civic Society will comment on applications which do not meet the aims of the Society to preserve and develop the best in Weston-super-Mare.  The Society believes the change should serve the community’s interests, with new development being of high quality and in keeping with the local character.  There are many successful examples around the country where modern can be added to old with great success.  As well as keeping a critical eye we believe it is important also to support applications where appropriate.

Current North Somerset Council planning applications can be found here.
