Planning Committee Refuse Adverts on the Seafront

Submitted on 15 June 2017

As previously reported there was an application to use selected lampposts on the seafront for fixed advertising banners. The Civic Society mobilised sufficient objections to force the matter to be considered by the council Planning Committee on the 14 June. David Agassiz (Society Treasurer) put the case that the proposal would do nothing other than spoil the sense of improvement in the area. The argument for their presence in the conservation area was totally flawed. After discussion the committee appeared to vote 17 against and 6 for the planning officer’s recommendation to approve. Thankfully the application was therefore refused.
